This week, Lexi and I would like to share with you an easy cure for FOMO, or the Fear of Missing Out.
Fear of missing out isn’t new.
“FOMO” is simply this generation’s version of the expression “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.”
The feeling of missing out is rooted in the Ego, from being unhappy or disappointed in where your life is at right now.
It’s wrongly focusing on what you’re not doing/having versus what you have, basically undermining your confidence that you’re making the right choice by doing what you are doing.
That’s where the problem is, because it’s the very fact that you are either disappointed where you are at right now or you are up against a scary process or transition, that you shift focus to distraction mode, pivoting from where your focus should be to another option for your time.
Why Do Millennials Battle FOMO?
As a young adult, the difficulty lies in the inability to really know where the balance is…how much should you be putting into yourself (for the sake of health, success, delayed gratification) versus missing out on certain bonding events with friends or family that will not come around again…especially if you have chosen to live a more experiential life versus being a long-term planner.
So, that’s why we decided to share with you our tips on how to catch yourself getting caught up in FOMO and how to easily get yourself out of that funk and back on track.
