But You Really Don’t Know

Anthony Dufresne Millennial Issues

The traditional saying is something like…

Preparation allows you to be ready when the opportunity arises.

Which makes sense, but maybe doesn’t paint the whole picture.

In some situations, people know what they are preparing for, how they have to prepare and when they are going to be called upon to act within that opportunity…

…like practicing in sports for the next game.

But,

A lot of us have this spark of an interest…perhaps the beginnings of a full blown, life-changing passion, and, since we don’t have any idea what to do with it, or where it will take us, we tend to dismiss it as unimportant or a waste of time or pointless because there is no know objective or reason for taking action on it.

BIG problem with that…

Because, the way it works is…a lot of times with life passion stuff, there isn’t supposed to be a concrete objective to shoot for because if there was…you’ll end up doing it wrong.

In many situations, people with specific goals become very linear in their pursuit…which means, they think…first I’ll read a book on how to read music, then I’ll buy a guitar, then I’ll take a class to learn how to play, then I’ll join a band, then I’ll start playing gigs, then I’ll start to write my own songs, then I’ll perform them around town, then I’ll record them, then I’ll send them to the record companies, then I’ll get signed, then I’ll tour, then I’ll become famous and win a Grammy.

Do you see the “build-upon” step by step logic of that journey?

Sadly, we humans are severely limited by this type of linear thinking (you can thank the survival instinct for that).

The problem with being linear is that it doesn’t mesh with how the universe actually works…

The universe is “dimensional”…it doesn’t operate in a straight line…and if you “plan” out your journey to your goal in a straight line, you’re missing the whole point…BECAUSE…

It won’t work out like that unless, by some freak accident, it was supposed to.

Most of the time, the universe would rather have you start building your fire around that spark of interest with a sense of wanting to learn, but also with a sense that the journey may take you in a different direction…

…which is actually the direction you’re supposed to go in the first place because…

You have no idea, at this moment, where you’re supposed to end up…

…only the universe knows that answer.

So, begin your journey with a goal of learning and growing and enjoying yourself at every level of expansion…

…while also being open to the peripheral opportunities that will present themselves to you as you trek along.

Because these are the opportunities that will guide you to the place you’re supposed to go.
